“ The moment had finally come, Yadi was finally standing right in front of her! ”

Wish kid McKenna, 16, was diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome. However, this doesn’t stop her from loving her favorite team in baseball. McKenna loves the St. Louis Cardinals, so it was no surprise when she wished to meet the team.

McKenna’s wish day was packed full of fun things for her to do, and it began with a private tour of Busch Stadium! McKenna made herself feel right at home in the Press Box, stood at the podium in the press room, and even got to see the difference of dugouts by taking a seat in both the Cardinals and Visitors’ Dugouts. After the tour, McKenna and her family were escorted down to the Cardinals bullpen where she played catch with her dad. McKenna and family were then treated to lunch at Ballpark Village, where McKenna enjoyed her favorite dish of all time, nachos! After lunch, McKenna got to tour the Hall of Fame Museum, where she got to hold a game used bat by her favorite player, Yadier Molina.

The moment that McKenna had been waiting for all day finally arrived! McKenna was escorted down to the field for batting practice. With memorabilia in hand and Sharpies ready, McKenna was ready to meet some players! It was no surprise that McKenna was very popular with the players, and was approached in seconds by players who all wanted to meet McKenna. However, McKenna was waiting for one special player to come over, and that was none other than Yadier Molina. After meeting player after player, McKenna was so excited when Yadi made his way over to her! McKenna walked away from batting practice with signatures on her jersey, game used baseballs, and even Kolten Wong’s freshly used batting gloves!

Up to this point, McKenna had had a wonderful day, but the day was not over yet! She was anxiously awaiting the moment when she would throw out a ceremonial first pitch. As McKenna made her way back to the field she could hear the excitement of the fans as the stands filled for the start of the game. Among an almost full stadium of fans, McKenna and Fredbird made their way to just in front of the mound where McKenna pitched a hard, fast ball!

McKenna and her family enjoyed a nice evening at Busch Stadium, enjoyed dinner inside the Redbird Club, and even got to watch the fireworks display for Fourth of July after the game!
