Lucas Helps Design and Build His Very Own Tree House

“Lucas builds his way to a brighter future ”

Lucas was diagnosed with a Wilm’s tumor (kidney cancer) on January 7, 2011.  On January 12, 2011, Lucas underwent a complicated surgery during which the surgeons at Children’s Mercy removed his left kidney and a tumor that was nearly the size of a volleyball.   Lucas started his chemotherapy treatments the following week and underwent 19 weeks of chemo.  He completed treatment this past fall and had his port removed just before Christmas.

Lucas has an adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors.  His wish for a tree house will allow him to not only be able to enjoy his wish everyday but also spend time playing with his siblings.  Lucas’s father, Lowell, said that he would not be surprised if Lucas tries to sneak out of the house to help the building crew as he loves the opportunity to help with projects.

I know that I will probably shed some tears when I see the finished product because I'll be thinking about all of the struggles Lucas has been through and how many wonderful memories our family will get to create as a result of his "wish" being granted. ”
