Corbin has lived his entire life battling adversity. When he was born he was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and at the fragile age of 4-days-old, he underwent a lifesaving surgery to have a pacemaker implanted in his newborn body. Since that day, the hospital has been an all too familiar place for Corbin and his family, and he is constantly receiving news from doctors and hospital staff updating him on his condition.
As familiar as Corbin is to hear news from his doctors, he recently received news from an unexpected source. He was about to have his one-true wish granted. Corbin’s excitement was immeasurable, he was finally going to be able to experience his longtime dream to explore the most magical place on earth, Walt Disney World!
Corbin’s wish to explore Disney World could not have been granted at a more perfect time. Corbin’s mother, Angel, stated that he was able to fantasize about his wish before he underwent surgery, and it acted as a real motivator for Corbin to get through his surgery. “If it weren’t for his wish, he wouldn’t have gone into his surgery as worry free, it truly made him stronger,” remarked Angel. “Corbin’s wish provided energy and strength when he needed it most.”
Corbin and his family were able to escape the harsh winter to a sub-tropical paradise, where Corbin could meet his favorite characters and take his mind off his hardships and medical condition. When they arrived in Florida, they were in for another treat. Corbin’s volunteer wish granters had arranged for his whole family to be picked up in a Limousine! The family stayed at the Give Kids The World® Resort, a true "fairy-tale" resort just a few short miles from Walt Disney World, where children with critical illnesses and their families are treated to a week-long fantasy experience. “Corbin’s wish changed our lives,” stated his mother.
Throughout his wish, Corbin was able to meet his favorite Disney characters, including his absolute favorite Mickey Mouse. They even received fast passes, so they were able to skip the long lines and enjoy all the rides Corbin had longed to experience. “This wish experience gave him the ability to feel special again,” Angel added.
A wish experience may be a moment in time, but it has the power to transform the lives of a child and their family forever.
