5 Days of Wishes

At Make-A-Wish Missouri, the holiday season is known as the Season of Wishes® — a time defined by inspirational moments filled with warmth, laughter, and joy.

These moments are often treasured and held near and dear to the heart. For wish children and their families, these special moments are especially important because of the challenges and worries they face on a daily basis.

Make-A-Wish Missouri gives you a behind the scenes look at a few of our heartwarming wishes. We invite you to share the power of a wish® and see firsthand how your, 100% tax deductible, year end gift to Make-A-Wish Missouri, directly impacts the lives of local wish kids and their families.

You see, its friends like you who make it possible for wish experiences to enrich so many lives with hope, strength and joy – and give wish kids the powerful feeling that they’re part of something magical.

For children who’ve endured far too much at such early ages, the joy of a wish experience can be truly transformative. We encourage you to give the gift of a wish during our Season of Wishes®, to give local wish kids hope, in a time when they need it most. Because hope, after all, is what the holidays are really about….

Wish Kid Katya

Katya, 16
acute transverse myelitis
I wish to go to Hawaii

Katya’s 5 “Favorite Things”

  1. Ziplining over a waterfall! It was AMAZING!!! Words can't describe how truly thrilling this was!
  2. Going to a black sand beach. I had never seen black sand. It was very unique and I loved the giant sea turtles that were on the beach.
  3. Going to a luau! My family and I were escorted to a VIP table in front. They even dedicated a song especially for me!
  4. Seeing a volcano!  It was very large and interesting to see. The ranger even gave me keepsakes of the volcano for me to take home.
  5. The resort! The resort we stayed at was fantastic.  It was beautiful. The resort was so large, it had a tram and a boat you could travel on around the resort grounds.
"I want to send my gratitude to the wonderful staff of Nortek Global, who sponsored my wish. This company really made the process special. They tailored their fundraising campaign around my Hawaiian wish. They included me in many of the activities, such as, ice cream social, Hawaiian-theme night at local restaurant, and fun games at their office. Many of the Nortek employees walked with me at the Walk for Wishes in April 2015" ... "I have such great memories of my wish trip. It was more than I had imagined it could be. Make-A-Wish outdid themselves! My sincere appreciation to Make-A-Wish Missouri for giving me memories that will last a lifetime." - Wish Kid, Katya

His smile could not have been bigger!" ... "For our family and for Nino, the power of a wish is the power to take away the challenges that Nino faces for a while, and instead, to give Nino a time of pure joy to share with his family!” - Wish Parents, Tonia and Brett

Wish Kid Calin

Calin, 7

I wish to go to Jedi training

Calin’s 5 “Favorite Things”

  1. Defeating the Dark Side during Jedi Training

  3. Playing Putt-Putt and steering the boats at Give Kids the World
  4. Riding the Seven Dwarfs mine train at Magic Kingdom
  5. Building my very own light saber at Hollywood Studios
"Calin’s wish to go to Jedi training at Walt Disney World was an incredible experience. For over three years, we had been focused on Calin's treatment, but his wish gave our entire family the chance to focus on having fun. As Calin's parents, it's impossible to describe how grateful we were for this opportunity. When your 4-year-old son has been diagnosed with Stage IV cancer, you take nothing for granted. His wish filled our hearts as we truly savored each new experience and reflected on how much we have been through." - Wish Mom, Trudy

Wish Kid Lyndsey

Lyndsey, 3

I wish to go to Disney World

Lyndsey's “5 Favorite Things”

1. Meeting so many of her favorite characters but her favorite was Minnie & Mickey Mouse!
2. Eating ice cream for breakfast everyday while at Give Kids the World.
3. Riding the carousel.
4. Her first airplane ride.
5. Spending time laughing & having a good time with her father, mother, and big brother Shawn.

“When we arrived at Disney's Magical Kingdom, and was in line to see Minnie & Mickey, she was beside herself with excitement and joy. When she finally got up there she had the largest smile that lit up the whole room. We stood there with tears in our eyes and smiled with her. It was so nice to see all the fear of the hospital stays, blood draws and therapy disappear right off her face, and be replaced with pure joy and happiness! This was the most amazing feeling in the entire world. Words can't express how truly blessed & thankful we are for Make-A-Wish for making Lyndsey's one true wish come true!!” - Wish Mom, Michelle

Wish Kid Rylan

Rylan, 7
optic pathway giloma
I wish to go to Disney World

Rylan’s 5 “Favorite Things”
  1. Collecting souvenir imprinted pennies
  2. Spending time with family
  3. Simpson’s area at Universal Studios
  4. Staying in our own condo, camping out on the pull-out couch
  5. Harry Potter train ride between the Universal Studio parks

"This trip was so special to us in so many ways. The place we stayed at, Give Kids the World, was amazing. We felt as if we were treated like royalty. Seeing so many families there with their children opened our eyes to the importance of being able to escape the routine of doctor’s visits, treatments, MRIs, etc. We truly felt like we were at home there and having the freedom to go wherever – whenever – was priceless. There were so many things we did and places we went to, but not once did we ever feel rushed. We feel so blessed that Rylan was able to choose this wish and for us all, as a family, to look forward to it and fully enjoy it!" - Wish Mom, Bonny

 Wish Kid Maddox

Maddox, 13
muscular dystrophy
I wish to go to Cars Land

Maddox’s 5 “Favorite Things”
  1. I got to meet Mater and he gave me baby Mater!
  2. I got to ride Mater's Junkyard Jamboree all by myself before the park opened!
  3. I loved Radiator Springs Racers and got to evacuate the ride when there was a malfunction!
  4. I loved the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and laughed when everyone else was screaming!
  5. I really liked shooting stuff in Toy Story Midway Mania!
"I think the power of a wish lies in how special and important it makes a child feel. For once Maddox was getting to do something really special because he was the child in the wheelchair. Maddox's disability and diagnosis didn't hold him back, it propelled him forward, it made him more important. For once his disability allowed all of his dreams to come true. Maddox got to stay on property, Maddox got to meet Mater, Maddox got to ride a ride all by himself, and everywhere we went people stopped to talk to him" ... "Most of all, he was given the gift of being celebrated just for being Maddox. Make-A-Wish created this opportunity for him and it was truly a gift. My favorite part of the trip was meeting the Genie, because Maddox thanked him for making all of his dreams come true!" - Wish Mom, Nancy

Wish Kid Alexis

Alexis, 8

I wish to go to Disney World

  1. Riding the Harry Potter train ride between the Universal Studio parks.
  2. Visiting the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.
  3. Eating ice cream for breakfast
  4. Meeting the Frozen cast
  5. Getting her license at Legoland
“When Alexis was referred to Make-A-Wish a few years into treatment, we were familiar with the organization and the great things it does for kids. However, when Alexis was granted her wish a few months later, the wish experience far exceeded anything we could have imagined for our family. Alexis loved every minute of the entire wish experience, from being treated like a princess by volunteer wish granters who played games with her and helped determine her one true wish, to actually meeting Disney princesses and dressing up like one as part of the wish experience itself. I’m not sure the smile left her face the entire week we were in Florida." ... "We cannot completely erase the memories of watching her endure intense treatments, tough sick days, or stressful surgeries, but seeing Alexis that happy for that long somehow seemed to erase most of them. The week was truly perfect, and was something we will never forget, and something we never could have experienced or given her on our own.”  - Wish Dad, Brian
