Step two: application process

After you receive the application and background check packet, review the materials to learn more about the volunteer opportunities we offer. If you decide that that Make-A-Wish Foundation is a good fit, fill out the application and mail it back to our office.

3

Step three: after the background check has been cleared

Once your background check has been cleared (it takes about 4 - 6 weeks), you will then be contacted for a brief interview . This is simply a time for us to get to know each other and determine your volunteer motivations and interests.  You will then be notified of our next available volunteer orientation/wishgranting training.

4

Step four: attend volunteer orientation/wishgranting training

Orientation meetings are planned on an as-needed basis; usually about 4 - 5 times per year. At this meeting you will learn more about the history of the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, specifics about our volunteer opportunities and how to stay actively involved as a Make-A-Wish® volunteer. We also "tag" these orientations with wishgranting training, so you can be trained for both at the same time!

5

Step five: officially join our team

We will contact you when your background check is complete. From this point, you may participate in any volunteer opportunities that peak your interests. As different opportunities arise, you will be notified by, phone and/or e-mail. To remain an active volunteer, we ask that you participate in at least three volunteer opportunities a year and attend a yearly recommitment event. Some volunteer positions, like Wish Granting and public speaking, require additional and ongoing training beyond the volunteer orientation. Please let us know if you are interested in these opportunities and we will let you know when the next training is scheduled!
