Q: Why did you decide to join the mission of Make-A-Wish?
A: Who wouldn’t want to work for Make-A-Wish?? I came from another nonprofit organization and was looking for a new opportunity. Not only is this an amazing organization that does such impactful work, but it felt like the right fit – and so far, it has been! I could not be more thankful to have such a rewarding job.
Q: What is the most rewarding experience you've had with Make-A-Wish?
A: Separate from my job responsibilities, I also volunteer as a wish granter; and have now served as a wish granter for five wish kids – each with their own, unique wish. To see the impact that a wish can have on a child and their family is beyond-words-rewarding. It gives the child hope, gives them something to look forward to. Sometimes it offers a break from hospitals and treatments, and sometimes it offers a celebration of remission! Wherever a wish kid is in their journey with critical illness, to have their one, true wish come true, with their family by their side, has an unforgettable impact that lasts a lifetime.
Q: What has been your favorite part in working with Make-A-Wish?
A: I love getting to hear about all the different types of wishes! I love that each child is unique, and his or her process of choosing a wish is just as unique! I love that some wish kids know exactly what they want the moment they qualify for a wish, and some have to think very hard about what their one, true wish is. A wish is such a magical experience – if you could go anywhere, be anyone, have anything, meet anyone – and knowing that the work I do each day contributes, in some way, to that magic … it’s all I could ever wish for.
