Q: Why did you decide to join the mission of Make-A-Wish?
A: I always knew I wanted my work to make a difference in someone else’s life. I have always admired Make-A-Wish and their mission, so I immediately looked for ways to get involved. I wanted to stop saying, “I wish there was something I could do”; Instead, I wanted to act to make that wish come true for others. In my junior year of college, I connected with a Make-A-Wish employee, and I applied to become part of the Wishmakers on Campus program. After a year of leading fundraising events for local wish kids, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career at Make-A-Wish. I was lucky enough to accept a job as a Wish Coordinator right after graduation and it has been the most rewarding job experience thus far.
Q: What is the most rewarding experience you’ve had with Make-A-Wish?
A: I think the most rewarding experience is being able to see a child’s wish come true. As a Wish Coordinator, most of the work I do is behind the scenes, however I have been able to participate in several wish reveals and experiences. There is nothing more rewarding than watching a wish child’s face light up with excitement once they realize their wish is being granted. A few months ago, I received a video of one of my wish kids, Jayla, experiencing her heartfelt wish to visit the Funko Pops headquarters. As Jayla ran around the store picking out her favorite pops, her smile became infectious to everyone around her. It was so rewarding to watch Jayla’s wish come true and knowing that I was able to be a part of her wish experience is a totally indescribable feeling.
Q: What has been your favorite part in working with Make-A-Wish?
A: My favorite part of working for Make-A-Wish is interacting with the wish kids and their families. Even after the wish is granted, I hear incredible stories from wish kids and their families about how that single wish experience made a huge impact in their life. I love knowing that these wishes make a lasting impression on these kids and everyone involved.
