Cardinals Wives for Wishes have hosted multiple events over the years in order to raise awareness and funds for Make-A-Wish Missouri. These annual events are always full of creativity and fun, welcoming a large crowd with their invitation. Over the years, the events have had different themes, resulting in a lot of photo opportunities and unforgettable evenings.
In 2015, Make-A-Wish Missouri celebrated its fifth annual Cardinals Wives for Wishes event. With attendance of the St. Louis Cardinals players and their wives, along with hosting from some of the wives, the event was full of fun. Aside from live-entertainment, a live auction and local kids present, the players and their wives were dressed in fun costumes, following a Kentucky Derby theme.
In 2016, their annual event followed a Havana Nights theme. Focusing on the wish kids every year, they ensure to make it a memorable experience for them. It was no different in 2016 when wish kid, Jake, was able to reunite with his favorite player, Kolten Wong. In May of 2016 Jake met Wong when he was invited to Busch Stadium. The highlight of the event was when Jake gave Wong a signed, framed jersey as a thank you. In 2016 alone, the event raised over $90,000.
And in 2017, their dedication and loyalty to the foundation continued. The theme was “Boots and Bling” and required the guests to arrive in their best cowboy boots, the ladies in dresses and the men sporting their cowboy hats.
Aside from their annual event, one example of a fundraiser started by the Wives for Wishes is the “Grab Bag” fundraiser. Each season, the wives host a number of “Grab Bag” fundraisers, where they sell mystery bags on game-days for $50. Included in the bag is an autographed baseball from a Cardinals player, along with a card revealing the mystery signature. All proceeds benefit a local non-profit in the St. Louis region, including Make-A-Wish Missouri.
We want to recognize the Wives for Wishes for sacrificing their time and strengthening their commitment to Make-A-Wish Missouri with every passing year. Their faithful desire to serve as many wish kids as they can is evident in the work they put into planning and hosting their annual events. Without their dedication and commitment, Make-A-Wish Missouri would not be able to bring as much hope, strength and joy to the local children we serve. It is our honor to nominate the Wives for Wishes for the 2017 Chris Greicius Celebrity Award. The Wives for Wishes have created a meaningful and lasting impact on our organization and its mission and our local wish kids and for that, we thank them.
