Open Letter From a Wish Mom

Brooklyn & Family
Life often surprises us with small gifts. The joy is in accepting them and recognizing them as such.

Recently we were blessed to meet with a representative from Make-A-Wish® Missouri and accompany them to meet with a local Kansas City company, CBIZ. CBIZ is a proud partner of Make-A-Wish and helps raise essential funds and awareness for the local Make-A-Wish chapter.

Twins Blake and Blaine share their wishes with each other

Blake and Blaine
Blake and Blaine are the closest of friends, and it just so happens that they are five-year-old identical twins. As with most sets of twins, these boys share everything: the good, and in their case, even the bad. These particular twins share a serious medical condition referred to as twin to twin transfusion syndrome which has resulted in several medical complications including a negative impact on their nervous systems. The boys are non-verbal, but they communicate with each other, and their family, through expression and sign language.

A Brother's Wish Fulfilled

Wish Kid Luke Blog
The Make-A-Wish experience is one to be shared. It is of course all about the wish child, but at Make-A-Wish Missouri®, we believe that the wish child’s immediate family – who has been there every waking moment supporting their son, daughter, brother, or sister - deserves to be there when the wish child experiences the life-changing impact that a granted wish brings. We believe it is important that the wish child’s parents, who have spent countless nights worrying about their son or daughters condition, are able to experience the feeling of sheer joy as their brave child receives the news that their heart felt wish is coming true. We believe that the wish child’s siblings should be there during the moments of joy, and the moments of happiness that come with the life-affirming mission of Make-A-Wish when the wish is granted.

Chris Greicius Celebrity Award - St. Louis Cardinals Wives For Wishes

St. Louis Cardinals Wives
For six years now, the wives, fiances and girlfriends of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team have generously donated their time and efforts to giving back to their St. Louis community. Each year, the women join together and give back to a variety of local charities. For Make-A-Wish Missouri alone, they have had a tremendous, noteworthy impact. As of 2017, they have raised over $1 Million for Make-A-Wish Missouri, granting over 200 wishes for local wish kids through their annual fundraising event, the Cardinals Wives for Wishes.

My Last Day as a Make-A-Wish Intern

Madi and Sam
Some things are easy to prepare for. You know what the expectations are, you know the experiences others have had and from that, you guess what the end result will be; you know what you’ll walk away with. You adjust and anticipate what you believe your experience will be based on knowledge and speculation you have.

And for other things, you have no idea what to expect.

At Make-A-Wish Missouri,
We Work For Them

Braxton
Imagine a child.

They parade around, drawing attention to themselves with their infectious personalities. Sometimes you break and let them have ice cream twice in one day, but for the most part, ice cream is only for special occasions or weekends. You would never trust them to cook dinner for you or give the pets the correct medicine. You have to remind them to brush their teeth and push away their finger when it goes into their nose. It’s a while before they are able to dress themselves on their own in something other than a ninja turtle costume or a princess dress. You would never give them the responsibility of keeping track of your meetings for the week, let alone let them walk across the parking lot without someone holding their hand.

Wish Kid Noah

Wish kid Noah and his family
When Make-A-Wish® Missouri asked me what my one-true wish was, I knew I wanted to meet someone. I only had dreams of meeting people I admired. The first person on my list was Cam Newton because I always liked him and he’s my favorite football player.
