Community Rallies Behind Young Kidney Transplant Recipient to Build One of a Kind St. Louis Cardinals Clubhouse

ST. LOUIS (Sep. 14, 2017) – On Friday, Sept. 22nd at 6 p.m., Make-A-Wish Missouri is revealing a Cardinals themed clubhouse for two-and-a-half-year-old local wish kid, Blake. His one-true wish was for a Cardinals themed clubhouse with a car port for his toy cars. In addition to Castle Contracting donating their workmanship and resources for the entirety of the clubhouse, the Cardinals Clubhouse team store is filling the playhouse with Cardinals memorabilia.

Though he is only two-and-a-half-years-old, Blake has already received a kidney transplant. Blake spent his first 14 months of life connected to dialysis every day to survive, waiting until he was big enough for a kidney transplant.

“Blake loves to be outside. His immune system is shut down by anti-rejection medication because of transplant so we do not take him in public during cold and flu season. He loves warm weather and being able to get out of the house,” said Blake’s mother.

Aside from being a huge Cardinals fan, Blake also enjoys playing with friends and wanted a reason to invite his friends over to play more.

“Due to his condition and low immune system, he is homebound frequently which played a role in his one-true wish,” said Amanda Rogers, Wish Coordinator at Make-A-Wish Missouri.

Blake’s clubhouse will be revealed during surprise party at his family’s home in St. Louis.

About Make-A-Wish Missouri

Since 1983, Make-A-Wish® Missouri has granted wishes to more than 6,000 children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. This year, the local chapter will grant more than 330 wishes. According to a U.S. study of wish impact, most health professionals surveyed believe a wish-come-true can influence the health of children. Kids say wishes give them renewed strength to fight their illnesses, and their parents say these experiences help strengthen the entire family.
